About Us

Hanson General Contracting Incorporated (HGC Inc.) is a light-construction company specializing in fine renovations, custom additions, sustainable design, and historic preservation for older homes and historic structures in the Philadelphia area.

Established in 1987, HGC Inc. manages all phases of construction – from demolition, to concrete and masonry, to mechanical systems, to framing and finish carpentry – delivering high-quality construction and dedicated customer service in every phase of a project.

During the past several years HGC Inc. has worked on several of the city’s significant landmarks, including the Vesper Boat Club, the Philadelphia Girl’s Rowing Club, and the Undine Barge Club-all on Boathouse Row-as well as historic Fort Mifflin, Bartram’s Gardens, and the Glenn Foerd Mansion. We have also built a number of residential additions and renovated homes both in and around the city. A renovation in the Fitler Square won a 1997 Merit Award from Custom Home magazine and was published in the April/May 1998 issue of Fine Homebuilding. More recently, HGC Inc. has had several projects featured in The Philadelphia Inquirer Sunday Magazine.

In addition to the two founding partners, John and Chris Hanson, the HGC Inc. team includes seven fulltime field personnel and an office administrative staff. We also have an established team of subcontractors who, like us, approaches each aspect of a job with professionalism, expertise, and sensitivity to a structure’s existing and historic characteristics. As a small company we are able to offer personalized service and strive to understand each of our customer’s individual needs.
